(2019)  It's one thing to produce some really good wine in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.  These people also make their own cheese, meats, and the homemade crackers are to die for!

We're on the road this week to Oregon's Applegate Valley, where we meet the couple behind Wooldridge Creek Winery and Wooldridge Creek VinFarm.  These two do it all, offering a fantastic experience in a gorgeous setting.  Then, we drive north of the border to sample the unique offerings of Strange Fellows Brewing in Vancouver, British Columbia.  If you've ever had trouble with names, you'll certainly appreciate their story!

Join host Brian Calvert for all this, plus Master of Wine Bob Betz of Betz Family Winery stops by to answer our wine questions, Justin Stiefel of Heritage Distilling Company mixes-up our "Drink of the Week," and the "Wine Moms" will have a wine recommendation.

On this week's show, we meet the people behind Cadaretta Winery and Southwind Vineyard on Walla Walla.  There's a great story behind the name on the label, as well as what goes into the bottle!  Then we're off on a field trip to historic Granville Island in Vancouver B.C., the home of The Liberty Distillery.  It's our first experience inside a distillery where they're allowed to serve cocktails.

(2019)  We definitely have some wine to talk about this week, but we also have some delicious beer that requires a little "island hopping."

On a recent trip to Kauai, host Brian Calvert and "Director Drew" met the crew from Kauai Beer Company and learned more about the craft beer scene on the small Hawaiian island.  But before we escape to paradise, it's time to go to wine school, as we check out the program at College Cellars in Walla Walla.  This program is producing some really great winemakers!

(2019) When he first arrived on the scene, Woodinville was home to a handful of wineries, and there were about 100 total in Washington.

Over the past three decades, his presence in the industry has grown right alongside the industry itself.  On this episode, we meet the winemaker and learn more of the story behind Patterson Cellars.  We also catch-up with a winemaker who's balaning his love for making wine, with his passion for opening a bed and breakfast.  There are good things ahead for Fivash Cellars.  Then, we head out to the Kitsap Penninsula and check out the cider production happening at Finn River Farms and Cidery.

On this episode, we learn the story behind Nine Hats Wines of Seattle.  This is a family operation, but the story is more like the Prodigal Son who goes away, only to eventually find his way back.  We also visit the Newberg area of Oregon to learn the story behind Utopia Vineyard, a certified sustainable operation run by a guy who's first career was in the Silicon Valley.

On a recent trip to Ireland, host Brian Calvert and "Director Drew" met the crew from Killarney Brewing Company and learned more about the craft beer scene overseas.  We saved this story to share on Saint Patrick's Day, as you'll love the Irish accents telling this story!  We'll also meet the local winemakers making a go of things in Duvall, Washington, where they're currently the only winery in town.  You'll love meeting the couple behind Cherry Valley Wines.

(2019)  Southern Oregon is booming when it comes to vineyards.  There's so much activity, it's spreading towards the coast...which is where we find this week's guests.

On this episode, we take you to where the Umpqua River Valley meets the Oregon Coastal Range for the story behind Brandborg Vineyards & Winery.  It's the tale of a winemaker who's blazed quite a trail through this country, finally landing in Elkton where he's built a renowned facility.  Then, we're off to Newberg to the home of Nicolas-Jay wines for the story of how a lady and two gentlemen have staked their own claim in the Willamette Valley.

(2019)  Every now and then we take you some place unexpected for a real treat, and this week's show is definitely in this category.

Last month, we visited the Hawaiian Island of Kauai for the first time, and got a chance to meet a local producer who makes something a little different.  What do you know about mead?  On this episode, we meet the islanders behind Nani Moon Meadery, where we learn mead isn't as sweet as you might expect.

Feb 4, 2019

(2019)  In some parts of the Pacific Northwest, its just not very easy to grow wine grapes.  Specifically, western Washington just isn't the place you find a lot of vineyards.

Until you look very closely.

This week, we feature to story of Skagit Crest Vineyard & Winery of La Conner, Washington.  We find out how a couple found a way to live and make wine close to home!  Then we travel to the most eastern part of Washington to meet some brewers who have really gone to the dogs.  There's plenty of evidence when you hear the names of some of the beers at English Setter Brewery in Spokane Valley.

(2019)  Their plan was to plant a region-renowned vineyard, and make a life together producing wine.

Then life changed.

This week, we feature to story of Triple Oak Vineyard of Oakland, Oregon, and the circumstances that left a widow to fulfill the dreams of her late husband.  It's an inspiring story that has an ending you'll raise a glass to!  Then, we're off Walla Walla, where we meet the rock star behind Eternal Wines and the Drink Washington State label.  Just the stories behind the names are fascinating.  Wait until you hear how and why he makes the wine!

(2019)  Did you have any idea there was a matchmaking service for wine grapes?  We met one on today's show!

The mother-daughter team at Kendall Farms used to grow wine grapes and make wine.  They still do today, but the focus on the business is to make sure no Northwest grape goes to waste.  Then we head to Oregon's Willamette Valley to meet the man behind William Rose Wines.  You'll love his accent, and his quest to help other budding winemakers through something called Oregon Wine Lab.

(2019)  One of Oregon's prized valleys for wine has a new AVA...because the grapes are definitely different there.

The man who began Rivers Edge Winery in Elkton stops by to share his winery's story, as well as what made his region of wine country deserve it's own distinction.  Then we're off to central Oregon to meet a bartender who had tasted plenty of good spirits, then decided to make his own.  It's really fun learning about Oregon Spirits Distillery in Bend, and their line-up of unique products.

The people behind Fletcher Bay Winery on Bainbridge Island stop by to talk about how they do what they do...as well as the others now making wine on the popular Washington island.   Then we head south to Oregon's Willamette Valley to learn the story behind Wildcraft Cider Works.  This popular operation in Eugene does some really interesting things with fruit!

Dec 17, 2018

(2018)  Sometimes, the person in charge of writing "titles" for the show gets a little too creative.  However, it IS true this episode features both cephalopods and train stations.

First, we sit down with one of Washington's female winemakers to get the story behind her two labels:  Cote Bonneville and Train Station.  Both are based in the Yakima Valley.  Then, we're back to Seattle for the fascinating story behind Mollusk Brewing.  They do things a little differently there!  We finally round things out in Idaho to meet the family that runs Fujitsun Cellars.

Dec 10, 2018

(2018)  Who are we kidding?  There's no place like Bend, Oregon. But as you're about to find out, just because the name says "Bend" doesn't mean that's the entire story.

This becomes much more clear as we sit down with the people behind Bend Distillery and learn more about their line of fine spirits AND that it wasn't named after the city.  Before we take you down this snowy road, we'll learn the story of Milbrandt Vineyards in Washington's Yakima Valley.  They have something special in the middle of all those Yakima hops!

Dec 3, 2018

(2018)  Maybe you're reading the title of this week's show and thinking "what?"  Well, we were just trying to be clever with the names of our guests.

First, we sit down with the people behind Eugene's Noble Estate Vineyard & Winery, and learn how this operation out in the country has become a major player in Willamette Valley wine.  Next, we head east over the Cascades to Bend to hear the story of Monkless Belgian Ales.  The guy behind this operation had made beer for friends for years.  One day, someone challenged him to "go pro," and he hasn't looked back since!

Nov 19, 2018

(2018)  Every fall presents a challenge for our show.  It's harvest time, which means the people who are normally guests, are busy in the vineyards.  Since we taped this show during harvest, we thought it might be fun to do something a little different.

For the first time ever on Northwest Wine Radio, we're going back to school.  We're spending the entire show with the people behind NW Wine Academy, which is headquartered at South Seattle College.  We take an in-depth look into their program, and even get a chance to meet students working towards their certificate.

Nov 12, 2018

(2018)  This week's show is a "trifecta" in the adult beverage world, featuring stories of wine, beer, and spirits.

Not every brewer strikes gold in the first year.  Then again, the guys behind Yakima's Single Hill Brewing aren't just any brewers.  You'll definitely enjoy the story of their beer, as well as their "good vibes" philosophy.  Speaking of first time victories, we meet the winemaker behind Oregon's King Estate, and find out it's his first job as a winemaker.  It's amazing when you consider the accolades he's won!

Then, we get a chance to sit down with the man behind Pacific Distillery of Woodinville, and learn a little about absinthe...and the correct way to sip it!

Nov 5, 2018

(2018)  It's just about that time of year when the gray skies and the rain make Hawaii sounds really tempting.  Well, one of our guests this week brings the magic of the islands to his wine.  We meet up with the people behind Freed Estate Winery in Winston, and find out how Hawaii influences every bottle they fill

But first, we sit down with the ladies from Adrice Wines of Woodinville.  They both come from different backgrounds, but found some common ground in good wine.  Then, if you're hoping for a "winery wedding," we have the chance to sit down with the people behind central Oregon's Faith Hope & Charity Vineyards and talk about what it takes for a truly memorable event.

(2018)  Visiting a tasting room in the heart of wine country is definitely a unique experience, but more and more, tasting rooms are finding homes in the middle of Northwest cities.

Seattle's Elsom Cellars is one of hese success stories.  Their winemaker shares what they're bringing to the city, as well as the challenge's she's overcome to put some great wine in a bottle.  Next, we get a chance to visit with Sound Spirits.  If the name sounds familiar, not only is it the first legal distillery in Seattle, but they were also among the guests on the very first episode of this show!  We check in with their head distiller and find out how they've grown these past 5 years.

Oct 22, 2018

(2018)  It's the story that's been making the rounds in wine circles across the country.

In a Northwest Wine Radio exclusive interview, we sit down with the Virginia winemaker who discovered someone had stolen two tons of grapes, and the Washington winemaker who came to his rescue.  You'll definitely enjoy the story of how the folks at Alexandria Nicole Cellars in Paterson saved the day.

Then, we're off to Oakland...not California, but Oregon...for the story behind a fictional mountain, and how it provided the inspiration for Spire Mountain Cellars.  And, how much do you really know about craft beer?  We get the chance to sit down with a cicerone (think sommelier, but for beer) and pick his brain about brewing, as well as the story behind Bend's Worth Brewing.

Oct 15, 2018

(2018)  This week on the show, we give you an unforgettable tongue twister...and some really good beer!  We meet the guys behind Belfair brewing behemoth Bent Bine Brew Company (say that fast three times).

Then, we're off to Walla Walla for a tale of a doctor and his wine.  While most of his colleagues are retiring and putting their life savings into wineries, this young doc is just starting his medical AND his wine career.  Marco de Santis stops by to share the triumphs and struggles of Radix Winery.

Oct 8, 2018

(2018)  Many winemakers, for lack of a better term, "get around."  We mean that innocently enough, as often times you learn in one winery, grow in another, and blossom in yet another.  So goes the story of Caleb Foster, the young winemaker at J. Bookwalter Winery in Richland.

Next, we take you to southern Oregon, to the oldest Pinot Noir in the state.  Dyson Demara stops by to share the story of Hillcrest Vineyards, as well as the tale behind his newest project that began as a run-down car dealership.
